The previous night ended in a decrescendo worthy of a Bach masterpiece. Beginning with the selling of my M4 and sloping into a relaxing evening drinking milkshakes with my mother, the Friday before the big day was perfect. The morning was to be bittersweet - a final farewell to my first kayak, my Heritage “Pro Fisherman 14”. It was going to be the final trip she and I would ever make together. To make it even more special, I planned to take my first fish ever on a fly.
With the Fort Pierce Classic scheduled for June 1 and Tropical Storm Andrea raining havoc, it became abundantly clear that this game changer was a force to be shy of, even for the brave hearts of the Kayak Fishing ClassicS tournament series.
Disclaimer: My review is based off a morning and test driving three kayaks from the local kayak shop. None of these reviews have extensive hours of research put behind them, just about a 20-30 minute initial observation. I test drove the Hobie Pro Angler 14, Jackson Cuda 14 and the Diablo Adios 12. I will post my observations of each. Hopefully it helps someone. THIS IS FOR THE DIABLO ADIOS 12, which to my understanding is just the longer version of the Chupacabra, or at least that’s what the salesman told me. As I have stated in the other reviews, my number one feature I’m looking for in a kayak is stability and this boat has it. It is my understanding that the designer of this kayak is a...

On August 11, 2013, some of the finest kayak anglers in the mid-Atlantic will gather in Swansboro, NC for the Airborne Angler Adventures Yak-Master Classic. The tournament will benefit Heroes on the Water and St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and the entry fee is a modest $25. Competitors are to receive captain’s bags and shirts, and there will be raffles as well.

This spring, I decided I would finally head over to the Eastern Shore in search of my first bull red. Unfortunately, my schedule and the weather did not cooperate. I was left reading reports from local legends and wondering if I’d be able to pull off my first trip, let alone hook and land a decent red.

The Hobie Pro Angler 14 is an awesome fishing platform! Remarkable stability, gear storage, a top-quality seat, and overall ease of rigging makes this boat shine. Stability - I was standing within minutes of first launching the Pro Angler...
I was skeptical, at first, about how useful a standup paddle board could actually be for day to day use. It seemed more suited to playing and exercising on flatwater and some saltwater applications; not practical in a River Stalker's world....
This morning, my fishing buddy Lewis and I set out on a journey to the Cooper River Coal Docks (by way of Drum Island) in search of redfish and speckled trout for the upcoming Inshore Fishing Association (IFA) Kayak Fishing Tournament in Charleston.
